This week, I've seen a lot of bloggers post about their top recipes of the year, or their top frugal tips of the year. I've decided, instead, to post my Top 5 Garage Sale/Thrift Store/Craigslist finds for the year.
#5 - Manure by the Truckload - $10 - Second-hand in the most basic of ways, a truckload of horse manure fortified the soil in all of our raised garden beds, and the rest went into our compost pile and will boost the soil again this spring.
#4 - White 5-Drawer Dresser - $5 - Kat needed a dresser and we found this one for cheap.
#3 - Garnet and Sterling Ring - 50¢ - I love rings and couldn't pass this up for for a couple of quarters.
#2 - Electric Kettle - 50¢ - I had been toying with the idea of one of these, but not being sure I'd use it, I didn't want to buy one new. I found this one for nearly nothing and use it almost every day.
#1 - Side-by-Side Refrigerator/Freezer - FREE - Our spare fridge was old, then it quit working altogether. We got this one from a craigslister who bought a new one. He had to take the doors off to get it out of his home and because he was too lazy to put it back together, we were able to get it for free. We love it.
Have a Happy and Safe New Year -- And happy bargain hunting in 2011!!

Nice list....
I will allow you to give #3 to me for my birthday since Garnet is my birthstone. ;-)
As one thrifter to another, great finds. I go thrifting weekly, it is my favorite "good time"!
Great bargains. In the UK if we move house the kettle is the last thing on the lorry and the first thing off again, it's just that important!!
Have you boiled eggs in it yet? I always forget I need hard boiled eggs for first thing in the morning so I throw a couple in the kettle, fill er up and the cook as it comes to the boil and cools down again while I'm in my bed sleeping:)
I agree with the others--great bargains. I love the ring. Wish I could find another electric kettle--I had one but it died and I hate to spend that amount of money again.
I hope you, Shane and Kat have a wonderful year!! Take care.
Don't you love it? I got so many good deals this year. Nick's dirt bike bicycle for $5, brand new Merrell's for me only $5, a soft leather Liz Claiborne coat for me for only $10, a brand-new with tags Brooks running winter coat that retailed for over $100 for only $10. Ooooooooh, can't forget my Hobart-era Kitchen Aid mixer for $20.
Wow some real bargains her. I especially like the 5$ drawer dresser!
Those were definitely wonderful finds! But I liked the FREE greenhouse the best. :)
Sluggy: Garnet! I didn't know you're birthday was coming up.
Melynda: I go at least every couple of weeks and sometimes more. Even when I don't buy anything, it's a good time.
Leanne: I've not heard of boiling eggs in it. Mine has an exposed heating element in it; does yours? I'd be afraid of an egg cracking and having a mess to clean.
Sheila: The ring fits only on my pinkie. I wish it would fit on one of my ring fingers.
CJ: The Hobart Kitchen Aid was definitely a great deal. The just aren't made that well anymore. :)
AAPC: Hi. Thanks for stopping by. Yes, the dresser was well worth the $5 we spent.
Lisa B: I thought of that, too, but the sunroom is a bit of a thorn in my side right now. It's about a 1/4 of the way installed and at that stage, it looks like crap. LOL! Once it's done, I'm sure I'll love it, though.
