It Could Happen To You

If you're frugal-minded, doing your own oil changes is a very good way to save some bucks. Just make sure that when you take off the old filter, the gasket comes off with it.

So that the new filter will seal correctly.

So that when you start the vehicle, it doesn't vomit out darn near all of its oil all over your driveway.

So that you don't have to go back to the auto parts store and buy another 5-qt. jug of oil and a bucket of "oil dry", more than doubling the cost of the oil change.

Just sayin'.

On a different note...

a friend gave us free tickets to the circus Friday night. After grabbing a bite to eat on the way, having cotton candy, popcorn, soda and a ride on the elephant for Kat, the evening was anything but free, but it was for a good cause, and we all had a great time.

Yeah, I used to change my own oil. I decided it wasn't worth the $15 or so I'd save by doing it myself -- I have enough to do. It seems like you can either have time or money but not usually both. In this case I've got the money and not the time. (And in most other cases I don't have the time or the money. doh)

Dadguy: Although time is a commodity, we usually have more of it than money. In the case of the oil change, we're in a big enough city that sometimes the wait at a lube shop, or worse still, someplace like Wal-Mart, can be an hour or more just to get the vehicle in.

Shane usually does both our vehicles at the same time, and any other small maintenance that needs done (yesterday it was tire rotation). That way, the tools, oil pan, etc., only have to come out and be put away once.

Good Grief Girl! After that kind of experience, a night at the circus was much needed! lol

Donna: Oh, it didn't happen to me, directly. Shane was the one changing the oil. (I know how, I just don't do it.)
