This Temp Thing Seems To Be Working Out

Today I received a cold call from a second temp agency.

A few weeks ago, I put my resume on careerbuilder.com with our big metro newspaper. Seems my resume came up when someone at the staffing service searched for "catering". They'd like for me to be a server for several hours at a banquet on Monday.

They also mentioned some clerical work coming up soon, if I'm interested.

The IRS contacted me today, too, requesting that I come in for the next step in the application process, which is electronic fingerprinting and keyboard skills testing. It's not a job offer, but moves me quite a bit closer to one.

If the corporate position I'm interviewing for works out, I'd be a fool not to take it because of the pay. But if it falls through, I'm really considering making a "career" out of temporary work 6 to 8 months out of the year and working at the IRS during the tax season.

I crave variety in work. You might even go so far as to say I'm fickle about it, and get bored of the same place, people and tasks very quickly. It can be an asset in a multi-faceted position, but more often than not, it's a drawback and an annoyance. Switching things up every few months (or weeks, or days) might be just the thing to keep me interested.

The closest thing I've ever done to temping is when I substitute taught... It was nice to always have a different group of kids and different things to do. However, for me, I enjoy the consistency and comraderie of a regular everyday job. I just wish I didn't have to go everyday.

Violet: I often feel as if I'm "forced" to be friends with people because I work with them, and in most cases wouldn't choose them as friends otherwise.

I think the phrase "Familiarity breeds contempt" was written about me in the workplace. :) I'm sure I'm in the minority, though.

I always wanted to have a friend who worked at the IRS. ;)

Dave: If I get the job, I'll be extra thorough with your return ;)
