And that peace and quiet will last for about another hour or so until Kat wakes up to her first official day of summer vacation. Oh well, I'll take it while I can get it.
How was your weekend? I had a fairly low-key weekend this time. I dropped Kat off at her mom's house on Saturday morning and picked a route home that I knew would promise a lot of garage sales. I wasn't disappointed, either. I found some much-needed items (a bench and a file cabinet), as well as a few other needs and wants. I shared those yesterday, here.
It was a hot day, so when I made it back home instead of mowing the grass right away, I did a few chores in the house and then waited until about 6:30 to start mowing. I thought it would be terrible because the temps were still in the 90s and the humidity was high (as always). But you know what? Mowing wasn't bad at all. I usually take a couple of quick breaks while I mow, but this time I only took one. I think maybe I'm just in better shape than I was at the beginning of the season. Shane had done a really good job of weed-eating last time, so I didn't have to do that, either. Still, by the time I was done, it was dusk, so I didn't do much else the rest of the day except shower and read fora while in bed.
Yesterday I got up at 5:00 a.m., did my morning chores, then headed outside to water the gardens. By 7:00 a.m. was as done and one the road to visit my parents, who live about an hour and half away. I had been invited for breakfast...but little did I know that my Dad was going to put me to work cooking! I didn't mind, and we had a simple but tasty breakfast of biscuits and sausage gravy and sliced tomatoes. I visited with them for a while, then found my way back home in the mid-afternoon. Kat arrived home around 3:30 or 4:00 and after supper, we didn't do much.
Today is going to be another hot day, so I need to hit the garden early again. I need to clear out the spinach and bring it in to blanch and freeze. It's almost done for the season. I also need to plant some ornamentals that my dad dug up from his lawn for me.
I need to scan and email a copy of our truck title to our insurance company so they can pay out on a fender-bender that Shane had last week. For those who didn't read it on my Facebook page, he backed into a low flat-bed trailer with our truck one morning. It was in the motel parking lot where he and his foreman are staying, and somehow neither of them noticed it there. (In their defense, it was at 5:30 in the morning and not yet light outside.) It didn't hurt the trailer, but it crunched up our truck a bit.
The rest of the week will see the start of swim lessons for Kat, maybe a trip to the library, maybe a trip to the bowling center for our first "Kids Bowl Free" game. Or not...it kind of depends on our moods and attitudes, if you know what I mean.
That's about it for this week. What's going on in your world?

I would love to just have a relaxing week with no 'extras' since I need to fit in 40 hours of work no matter what but that's not this week (or next).
This week I have Nick's 1st grade graduation on Wednesday and I have another appt beforehand that is really going to mess up my day. Thursday I have a parent's association meeting for Dan's daycare at lunchtime. Somehow I have to make up all those hours. Nick is in a spelling bee at 1pm today but there is just no way I can go when I am an hour away from his school.
Nick has his baseball game on Wednesday too, same night he's supposed to have swimming class so at least I only have one night of activities this week instead of 2 or 3 (his next game isn't until Saturday and it's at 12 instead of 10am so won't interfere with my yard sales!)
How nice to be able to do whatever you want this week! Some day...
Fresh spinach sounds awesome!!!
The relatives have begun arriving.
I am in hell.
save me!!lol
What are you doing to get in shape? I need to do something. I'm gross but I think that I've complained to you before.
