Please Help If You Can

Shane and I are still waiting for our carpet to be installed later today, but while we wait, we are continuing the decluttering we started last week.

Shane said he might need a "push" to start letting go of some things.  Unfortunately, we found that push yesterday evening when Joplin, MO, was devastated by a deadly tornado.  Joplin is a city of about 50,000 people located a few hours south of us.

For a number of reasons, neither of us can help in person.  I think, at this time in our lives, we will be able to make a modest monetary donation.  But another  way we can help is to donate the items we're decluttering from our home directly to the tornado rescue efforts.  I'm going to look into just how to get that done and will then post it here.  I'm sure clothing, bedding, towels, health items and non-perishable food is what they need most at first.  Later on, they'll need household items and furniture.

Joplin wasn't the only town hit over the weekend.  I know the small town of Reading, KS, was also hit, as was the large city of Minneapolis.  Maybe there were others.  And don't forget the storms from a few weeks ago.  People in Alabama and other states still need help and will for a while.

So, if you don't have money to spare, I urge you to think about donating tangible items that these survivors can use.  I'm fairly certain someone at your local Red Cross can tell you how to get your things to those who need them.

If you don't have time to declutter and gather these things, then please, consider a small monetary donation.  Any amount will help.  Here is one place you can do that:  Ozarks Red Cross.

If you are a Facebook user, this page has continuous updates:  Joplin, MO Tornado Recovery

Thank you in advance for anything you are able to do.

Wonderful post, it's horrifyingly sad reading about all of this.

GREAT post! What a sad time for those people. I just took a whole car load of stuff to the Goodwill on Saturday but am always decluttering lately. I'll get more together for that.

What a great post! As you know, I have gotten rid of so much over the past several months. Fred and I are starting to fight because I want to get rid of everything. I will look to see what else I have to donate.
