Monday Morning Chit Chat - Thanksgiving In April Edition

Whew!  What a busy weekend!  Saturday morning Shane headed out to work a day of overtime while I took Kat to our big farmers' market to meet her mom and and step-dad there.  Some days crowds just get to me, so after about an hour there, I left, having bought none of the beautiful produce or plants.  I did, however, grab an Indian spiced beef pie (filled roll) on my way back to the van.  Yum!

I left the market and, having the day to myself, I drove to one of of the suburbs thinking I'd hit a few garage sales.  It started raining on my way, so I nixed the garage sale idea in favor of hitting a thrift store or two.  I found two pair of cute (and like new) Mary Jane-style clogs and a summer dress.  By the time I was done, Shane had called saying their overtime day had been cut short by rain and that he was headed home.

I stopped on the way home for a couple of Redbox movies, but when I got there Shane was in the mood to paint our bedroom.  We bought the paint almost two years ago and have put off the painting since then for literally one reason after another.  I thought I'd better take advantage of his willingness to move heavy furniture for me, so we ended up painting, rearranging and rehanging wall art from 1:30 to 10:30 Saturday afternoon/evening.  It's almost done.  I still need to paint one of the closet doors and I want to buy a hanging plant before I post the pictures.

Needless to say, we didn't watch the Redbox movies.  Watching a movie on a weeknight is almost impossible for us, so I ended up taking them back yesterday and we'll rent them again when we have more time.

I also cooked a turkey dinner yesterday, using a turkey we'd bought as an extra back around Thanksgiving when they were cheap.  It was the full meal, too, with mashed potatoes, gravy, pumpkin bars, salad, homemade cranberry sauce and stuffing from a box (because I just can't seem to make good homemade stuffing or dressing).  I think Shane was happy for the hearty meal.  He spent all of yesterday helping his mom and step-dad move in the cool, drizzly weather.  They recently moved back to Missouri from Arizona and had been staying with Shane's sister.  Now they are in their own place.

After a weekend like that, we need a couple days off!

My plans for the week include more time working on the afghan, getting out to the garden to thin things out (didn't get to do that over the weekend because of rain), and making all kinds of tasty meals with leftover turkey.   I have to say, though, I think the best leftover is nothing more than a sandwich of sliced turkey on homemade bread with mayo and homemade dill pickles.  Can't be beat, in my book.

Tell me what you have planned for the week.

I wait with baited breath to see the before/after piccies....
I'm the same way-choice between painting help and movies and the painting wins hands down. If you run out of painting jobs and Shane gets the urge, send him over to my house. I have painting jobs stacked up!lol

If this rain keeps up I just may sleep all week. Otherwise, we have the French Honor Society ceremony for daughter and the chorus and band concert for #2 son and daughter this week along with Orthodontist visits. I've got more eBay listing and crap sorting on the decks for this week along with a call to my brother(always a good time...not!lol)
And I'm out of Lobsters too!ack!! ;-)

Wow! You guys got a lot done over the weekend....Yay! I can't wait to see the pics!

That turkey meal sounds delicious. Yummy yummy yummy....

I didn't get much done this weekend; daughter didn't feel good, son was out-of-sorts from having a really tough week at school, so hubby and I just tried to keep our sanity! HA! lol :)

I wish Den would get in the mood to paint!!!
You had a super busy weekend! It's nuts here too! I hope this week is better but Den's car quit so I'm thinking that it will probably get worse!

Wow! You had a busy weekend! My youngest just on an "I want to paint my room kick" last night as well. We've got the supplies but no paint. She just decided on green and green. So we'll see how soon THAT gets done!

We haven't even been able to plant anything yet because of all the WET!! Whew, gf! You make me tired. I went to Pendleton's in Lawrence for purple asparagus though, and we're enjoying that on the grill tonight (again!)

Sluggy: You could do like I do and just not call your brother. Problem solved. ;)

A.Marie: I hope your week is better than your weekend.

SonyaAnn: Ugh! I hate car trouble.

McVal: Green and green? What shades? I guess Kat's room is next here, but probably not until next year.

Sharon: Long way to drive for asparagus. ;)

Well if I don't call him his wife will call me....lesser of 2 evils situation my dear. ;-)
Brother has been mad at me since I told him last year that I do not wish to own property jointly with him(re:the house that belonged to our brother who passed away last July). It violates my never loan or mix money with relatives policy. Money+relatives=trouble.

Wow you really did do a lot over the weekend. I'm a bit like too in crowds, sometimes I'm fine and then other times I can feel the heat rising up through my chest and I start to get a really bad headache and I just have to leave.

A quietish week for us here, I think I pushed myself a bit too much in the garden on Sunday. I was fine yesterday but boy do I feel it this morning:)

I can't wait for all the car boot sales to start in our area again. I feel the need for a good plunder through other people's things.

Can't wait to see the pictures of your bedroom. I just go with it too when Kevin decides he wants to paint or do some remodeling job around here.
We some times have a turkey dinner in the middle of the summer just to have it and it's always with an extra turkey I bought for a small amount of money. We make a grilled turkey sandwich with dill pickles, cheese and barbeque sauce--sort of like a cuban sandwich but different. YUMMY!!

Slugmama: Oh, I see. And I agree.

Leanne: Do people all set up in a parking lot somewhere like a swap meet? In our city there are swap meets every warm weekend at an old drive-in movie theatre. It's something like $13 per vehicle to sell and $2 just to go in and buy. You might find all kinds of bargains, or nothing, but it's fun either way.

Sheila: That sammie sounds good! I'm thinking that if there is enough turkey left, I'll make some kind of club thing with bacon, only I'll wrap everything in tortillas. :)

Yes it's exactly like a swap meet. They're almost always held at Churches as fundraisers either outdoors in the Summer and some are quite busy all year round so they use one of the halls during the wetter weather. Like you say, you can arrive home with armfuls of things and barely a fiver lighter or wal away with nothing, but they're always fun just the same.

For some reason yard sales never really took off here, probably the weather more than anything, but it would be great to just drive into a neighbourhood and spend the day rifling through other people's stuff:)
