Grocery Recap - April 18 through 24

Here is this week's grocery recap.  There is a little more snack food on the list than usual.  Why?  Well, first, because we can't seem to resist the salty snacks.  And second, because Shane has been working some 10-hour days and some Saturday hours lately; the longer his hours, the more food he takes with him to eat at lunch and breaks.  One of my only beefs about him working construction is that there is rarely a place to set up a microwave on the job site, and a very restricted amount of time for breaks.  This means that his food is usually limited to cold sandwiches and snack foods that require no prep on his part.

I still did fine, though, coming in several dollars under our weekly budget of $55.00.

Groceries:

Needed now:
8 oz.  shredded Mexican cheese, 12 cartons yogurt (Kat hasn't developed a taste for my homemade yogurt yet), 2 cans crushed tomatoes, 1 jar applesauce, 3 cans tuna, 1 head lettuce, 1 gallon milk, 1 pkg. of 9 Roma tomatoes, 1 lb. raisins, 1 box stuffing mix, 2 dozen farm-fresh eggs and
2 cans baked beans (for a quickie meal with some hot dogs while we painted our bedroom yesterday).

Not yet needed:
8 oz. shredded Co-Jack cheese, 8 oz. shredded Cheddar cheese, 2 pkgs. flour tortillas, 5 lb. sugar, 8 oz. cotija cheese

Splurges/unnecessary items:
1/2 pint whipping cream, 1 bag pretzels, 1 box cheese crackers, 1 bag cheese curls, 2 box Triscuit-type crackers, 2 bags tortilla chips, 1 bag potato chips

Total spent, after coupons - $42.68

Still impressed with your spending--or lack there of!! I'm working on doing better too--slow and steady, right?

Looks like you 'did good' as always. How big the bags of topsoil for a dollar? I know a few weeks ago Sutherlands had 40-lb bags for 99-cents each! Doubt if that sale lasted very long, though.

Doug: $1 for a 40-lb. bag at HyVee. Yesterday and today only.

I missed the similar sale at Sutherland's, but I would have had to drive to Harrisonville, Waldo or 40/Noland to get to one anyway.

I'm at about $13.50 for food spending for the week.....all DH purchases since I didn't go to any stores again this week. I may break down and go spend $ this week if I can get the energy up to get out of my pajamas.lol
What's your menu like for that $42.68 you spent?
