"In A Pinch" Taco Sauce

I wanted taco sauce the other day but didn't have any in the house, so I improvised.  I ended up with a pretty decent sauce. It was quite a bit like the sauce in those little orange packets at Taco Bell.  I think next time I might use low-sodium tomato sauce or tomato paste instead of ketchup just to see if I like it any better.

"In A Pinch" Taco Sauce

1 envelope taco seasoning mix
1/4 cup ketchup
water

Combine taco seasoning mix with ketchup.  Add enough water to make 1 cup total.  Pour mixture into small saucepan and simmer until reduced to 3/4 cup.  Let cool to room temperature, then serve or refrigerate.

Makes 3/4 cup.

I wish I had seen this before the last time I made fish tacos and realized I was out of taco sauce.

Good idea....who doesn't always have ketchup hanging around, right?lol
I think I'd like the tomato paste a little better if I had a choice...not so much sugar like ketchup.

I didn't think the ketchup made it too sweet, but it was a little salty (even for me, who loves salty food). That's why I though lo-so tomato sauce might work better. But you're right...I almost always have ketchup on hand, but rarely have tomato sauce.
