Kat's school is out today. I'm not sure why, because we were on the southern edge of a big storm, and there is only about an inch of snow on the ground. I suspect some of the school's have closed because of the cold instead of the snow; windchills are hovering between -5° and -10°.
Shane's work is out, too. He was home yesterday because of ice and snow on the jobsite. Today, I'm sure it's BOTH the slick conditions and the cold that have warranted the shut-down, and they've already called work off for tomorrow. Three days without pay this week is going to hurt the bank balance a lot, but he should be back to work by Friday and will hopefully get a full week in next week.
Now, books and television depict snow days as peaceful and fun days with the family. Ours usually don't turn out that way. Having everyone home when we "aren't supposed to be" throws us into a tailspin. It could be fun and games all day, or we might all be whining and fussing by noon. There's just no telling how the day will turn out, but I have high hopes it will be a good one.
Who else is having a snow day today? What will yours be like?

Oh, my kids would just love a Snow Day. Our School District doesn't declare Snow Days very often. We are usually the last school to close. One year, our school refused to close and it was absolutely HORRIBLE outside; zero visibility and closed roads and everything. Boy, were some parents MAD!!
I totally understand about Snow Days and tailspins. I usually try to make some cookies or something, in the kitchen. Something about baked goods seem to calm my kids! If hubs is home, I have him get out the Monopoly game. I don't know what it is about that game, but it entertains my crew for HOURS!
Good Luck! I'll be thinking of you! It is really windy here, and there is some blowing snow, but nothing major. Yet!
Yep - we're a snow day too! 12" and counting so far of the wonderful marshmallowy stuff! It's blowing like crazy and the entire family is shut up inside. Too bad I telecommute!!! Off to work!!!...
We are having a snow day too - the WHOLE family. Have a pot of chili on the stove, and the kids are playing a game. It's actually kinda quiet right now, and that is a good thing!
A.Marie - It went ok, I guess. No major blow ups. We've been working a puzzle most of the afternoon and evening and when that got to be too much, I looked at cookie and candy recipes. Need to decide what I'm making for a cookie exchange on Saturday.
McVal: You sound like you might actually LIKE snow! :)
FG: So, how much snow did you get? It looked like you were in for a bunch.
We had a lot of snow in the Upper Midwest...but no snow day. I think we got 6.5 inches. I took a little video of our back yard: http://ow.ly/KsAk
Hi there..thanks for your comment..it meant alot!
Here on the IL/WI border, they never call off school. But when they do, I hand out shovels when they get under my skin!!! It's amazing how well they will behave when they have a choice!!
Have a great weekend. I'll pick a booger next week for sure!
