The Joneses Aren't Keeping Up

Things aren't going as well as I'd hoped in terms of debt management. Shane is having a little trouble with his truck.

For the past couple of weeks it hasn't been starting well in the mornings. To the tune of taking as many as 20 attempts to start it. Once it finally starts it runs great, and will start fine as many times as necessary throughout the day. It doesn't seem to be the starter or alternator because it tries to turn over on every attempt. We think it's a fuel system problem; possibly a professional cleaning of the fuel injectors will do the trick.

On top of that, there could be an electrical problem as well. I say that because the battery ran down while Shane was trying to start the truck this morning, and he ended up jumping it with the van. Assuming the battery will still hold a charge, we think Shane's current drive to and from work each day (about 60 miles total) would be enough to keep it charged. Unless there is a problem with the alternator.

Of course, we aren't sure about any of it since we aren't mechanics. We're just basing our "diagnosis" on common sense and previous experience.

Whatever the problem ends up being, the fix will likely have to go on our credit card. Just like with the tires, this isn't the way we want to handle this, but it may be our only option.

Although I'm not really looking forward to going back to work outside the home, my job can't start soon enough. We need the money - now.

We are going through the same thing with my hubby's truck. It's an older truck and there are times I dont think its going to start. We keep praying it will hold on a while longer until we are in a better financial situation.

You and I have a lot in common. Hugs to you.

What kind of truck?

Fuel pump pressure regulator. Especially if it's a Dodge. We had that problem on our Dodge Intrepid.

When my Blazer was starting hard, it was the fuel pump. It would also hesitate on acceleration sometimes, but mostly it was just starting hard.

Before you do the professional fuel injector cleaning try some Techron fuel injector cleaner. Get the 20oz bottle and dump the whole thing in the tank. It's worked wonders for me in the past. The Chevy parts guy told me it's the same thing that GM uses. It ain't cheap, I think they get about $10 for a 20oz bottle, but compared to a mechanic it's a steal!

Good luck with your vehicle issues. That's no fun. :/

Donna: Thanks! I think we got it fixed.

Lisa: Good luck; I hope your truck holds out for you.

Nobody: Good advice, but he'd already taken it to the shop by the time we read it. I suspect the Techron would have helped but might not have been enough, considering how dirty the mechanic said it was.

Dadguy: It's absolutely no fun. I just hate having vehicle trouble.
