Gun Jumping

I've spent most of the last two days in the garden.

Monday I planted peas (seeds and seedlings), broccoli, cauliflower, cabbage and kohlrabi (seedlings), lettuces, radishes, beets and green onions (seeds).

Today I planted carrots, turnips, Swiss chard, collard greens and spinach (seeds) and garlic and yellow onions (sets).

There are little green leaves on our crab apple tree, tiny buds on our red bud, white bud and dogwood trees, four visible asparagus spears in the garden and the grass in our backyard is decidedly shaggy.  It would seem that spring has sprung!  But now I see there is cold weather and snow in our forecast (keep in mind it's 9:30 p.m. and still 72° as I type this).  Yes, snow.  I don't think it will stick and if it's just a quick dip in and out of the freezing temps, the seedlings will be alright.  What has me concerned is a projected dip into the 20s and maybe a cold spell that lasts a little longer than "just a quick dip".

I guess that's the risk I take when I gamble on early gardening in Missouri.  If it works, I'm ahead of the game.  If it fails...well...there's still plenty of time to replant.

Yep, MIZZOUREE for sure.
We planted peas, lettuce, radishes and potatoes ourselves.
Time will tell.

There is 3 inches of snow on the ground here as I type this with more coming later today.
I'll keep my fingers crossed for your gun jumping efforts! 8-)

I hope your efforts pay off, but I'm not at brave as you! lol

I am going to get my potatoes planted in next couple days, frost won't hurt them, will it?

Still very cold here as well. 2 weeks ago I had one of the tiniest rhubarb leaves, but it was gone when we had more cold. I did notice leaves from a couple of the other plants, so I might get some rhubarb after all. Good luck!

WE just got rid of the last of our snow and now more is on the way. YUCK!
Hey you should plant the tomatoes that sluggy found.

OBQ: Thank you! It's so good to know I'm not the only crazy gardener in this state. ;)

Sluggy: I'm so over snow. I'm packing my stuff and moving south. Won't Shane be surprised when he gets home.

Lisa B: On one hand, there's the time lost if I have to replant. On the other hand, seeds are cheap, so it's kind of worth the gamble to me.

Mark: I try to spin that way as much as I can. It doesn't always work, though.

Melinda: Our rhubarb didn't make it over winter. It was in it's first year and we think it actually died last summer. We're going to try again, though.

SonyaAnn: Did I mention I hate snow?

Oh no! I hope it's nothing. Maybe put a blanket over the garden when the cold is here...
