Valentine's Day Treats - Frosted Sugar Cookie Bars

I still haven't recovered from my weekend of wanting to do nothing, but I promised Kat I'd take in treats for her Valentine's Day party, so I decided on this recipe from Amanda's Cooking. (I apologize for the lackluster photos.  The kitchen was too bright for the flash, not bright enough without it, and I was too rushed to play around trying to get a better shot.  You really need to look at the link above to see how pretty these bars can be.)

These were easy! The most difficult part was getting the dough spread into the pan.

After cooling the cookies in the pan, I cut the large mass into thirds. I divided the frosting into thirds as well. Leaving on portion white, I colored one of the remaining portions pink and one lavender. A spread each color on a third of the cookie blocks, then sprinkled the decorations on. I used white nonpareils on the lavender, chocolate jimmies on the pink, and purple and red colored sugar on the white. I cut each color into 16 bars (about 1.5 inches by 2 inches or so). I put half of the bars onto trays for the classroom and kept half for us here at home.

I know kids (and some adults) love frosting, but personally, I would love to have left some unfrosted. I think they'd be great with a cup of tea or coffee. Oh well...there's always next time.

I do the same thing with frosting here on cakes. One does not eat nuts, one like a thin frosting over cake, others like regular or thicker, etc.... Your bars look lovely, just right for a party.

These look so much easier than having to roll and cut the dough. I bet they were wonderfully delicious. I have a sweet treat linky party on my blog called "Sweets for a Saturday" and I'd like to invite you to stop by this weekend and link your bars up. http://sweet-as-sugar-cookies.blogspot.com
