Still Here

Just a quick post to let everyone know I'm still here.

School was out Monday for the MLK holiday, Tuesday and Thursday for snow days. When Kat's home, I don't get much of anything done, although I'm always cleaning, cooking or fetching something for her. Today there is school, but she's home with a stomach bug. I thought at first that she was just trying to get another day off, but she agreed to no TV or computer time today and voluntarily went back to bed, so I'm pretty sure she really isn't feeling well.

Shane's employer has somehow managed to keep them in work this week despite the snow storm. Wow! He'll actually get a full paycheck this time. And he'll be making the two-hour trip home today after work. He may have to go again next week, but there is more snow on the way, so it's hard to say what will happen.

With Shane gone, we've been scrounging just about all of our meals from leftovers in the fridge or less-recent leftovers in the freezer, so I don't even have any cooking or recipe posts to share.

So, it's been both busy and boring around here. The only thing there has been to write about is snow, and judging by the weather maps, most of you probably have plenty of your own.

One bit of good news is that Shane's W-2 came in the mail yesterday, so I can get started on our tax return right away. There should be a refund, and we could certainly use it as soon as possible.

Okay, so you know that I'm new here, right? Anyway, in a sentence or two, can you fill me in on your life. I just want to get up to speed with everyone else.
We've had three 2 hour delays this week. It's getting on my nerves.
Your new friend, m.

Oh, to have a simple, easy tax return....lolol
I look forward to the day I don't have to spend weeks and weeks on ours, and the kids' returns.
3 days off and 2 2hr. delay days here...is winter over yet???

I hope Kat is feeling better soon. Good for Shane's employer for keeping them working. I'm sure the paycheck will come in handy. We're supposed to get more snow starting on Monday--so not looking forward to that!!!
I haven't been blogging much either--it just seems we do the same old, same old so nothing new to post!
Looks like we're getting a refund this year too--welcome change from having to pay over $1000 last year.
I hope y'all have a wonderful weekend. Take care.

Ok, you asked for it. :)

I am 47, my hubby Shane is 34 and we are legal guardians to our granddaughter, Kat, who is 7. (That would mean Shane became a grandpa at age 27.)

My daughter and her husband appear in my posts occasional. She is Jean and he is M. The are 26 and 25, respectively.

(None of these are our real names.)

I'm a stay-at-home granny and Shane is an ironworker, currently working in Manhattan, KS, but usually working within an hour's drive of home. This time of year, whether he'll be working at all is always in question.

We like to garden and do a lot of DYI projects. We're just a chicken coop and a few hens shy of being urban homesteaders.

This blog explores some of those things. I also include a lot of recipes, frugal ideas and our goal of becoming debt free.

Also? I'm not nearly as nice in real life as I am on the blog. LOL.

Sluggy: I don't know if ours is simple or not, but it's the same every year.

We file and itemized Federal return and then we have to file both KS and MO returns since we live in MO and Shane invariably works in both MO and KS at some point during the year.

The Fed return isn't bad, even being itemized, and the KS return is a breeze, but the MO return gives me a headache.

Sheila: She went right back to sleep as soon as I said she could stay home. I'm hoping she feels better when she wakes up.

YaY for the W2! My boss usually waits until the very last legal minute, so I was pleasantly surprised to see mine in the mail yesterday too!
Now my hubby gets to play with the Turbo Tax and figure all this out...
Fun times!
Have a great weekend with Shane home!

Well then, I'm glad that I only know you on this Blog. Fred says the same thing about me. He says, "if those people really know how you are..."
Thanks for filling me in.
