Single Mom Again...For Three Days

I was a single mom for 13 years before I met Shane. For the next three days, I get to have to have a taste of that lifestyle again while Shane works 150+ miles away from home in Manhattan, KS, for the rest of the week.

Aside from the obvious fact that this is only temporary, these next few days will be hugely different from my past as a single mom because I'm a SAHM.  Honestly, I am not sure I could handle the single parenting scene again if I had to work outside my home.  Oh, who am I kidding?  Judging by my last attempt at holding down a job, I can't even handle working outside my home as a married parent.

Actually, this should be a breeze for three days.  Not much will change, except

...the TV will go off earlier in the evening.
...the stereo will be turned on instead.
...more book pages will be read.
...supper will probably be eaten right after Kat gets home from school.
...if I want to give Kat a tuna sandwich and fix something really disgusting for myself for supper, I will.  (I'm thinking yummy liver and onions, which I love, but don't cook since no one else here likes them.)
...I'll sleep in the middle of the bed.
...if I want to fall asleep with the radio on, I will.

You may be asking, "Won't you miss your husband?".  Well, sure.  But it's only for two nights and I know he's coming back.  That lets me view this as a change of pace and not a disruption of lifestyle.  And truth be told, after almost 11 years of marriage, there are still nights when I really miss leaving that radio on all night.  And liver and onions.

I love your liver and onions comment (I don't, however, love liver). We had a really nice cafeteria where I used to work, a long time ago. Every day they had 2 home made entrees, salads, sandwiches, jello, etc. The menu was posted every Monday, and when they made liver and onions, they would sell out. Seriously, people would talk all week long about how they couldn't wait for Thursday! They were like you, if the spouse didn't like L & O, they never had it at home.

I haven't thought about that for years, but your blog post today brought it all right back.

We do the same things when Kevin is away from home. I would eat liver and onions with you--no one here likes them but I love liver and onions. I should have it once in a while for my anemia but alas--I'm deprived!! When I was growing up, we had liver, mashed potatoes and little green peas every Friday night for supper. Hope you enjoy your change of pace this week. Take care.

I do those exact same things when my hubby is gone overnight! AHHHH the bed is mine!!!!
and I serve fish sticks just because I can! (He hates the smell of any fish...)
It is hard to do all this parenting thing alone.

You enjoy your free-wheelin' days!!!
I relish when Hubs goes out of town for a day or two. No fox news or espn all night long!lol
And the whole bed...aaahhhhh, that has to be the BEST. THING. EVER.

Luckily I don't have to wait to eat liver and onions since 3 out of 4 here like it....but the restaurant here that fixed it the best went out of business, dang it!

UYs girls all like our me time! And if I were closer Id' come and eat liver and onions with you. My Dad use to fix me liver and onions and I love it. It's one dish I can't cook, the smell of cooking is something I can't handle.
Enjoy your me time.

Elaine: Shane says I should make it at home if I want and he'll just find something else to eat. So far, I haven't done that.

Sheila: My mom always made the best liver and onions. The recipe kind of made it's own gravy, so they were moist instead of the dry, grilled kind. I like both, though.

McVal: We have fish sticks every month or so. Kat loves them (any breaded fish, really, and tuna)!

Sluggy: So much for having the whole bed to myself. 3 out of 4 cats were on it with me, and lately Siesta gets downright grumpy any time I try to move her off it.

Jill: Thanks! I am.

OBQ: You're right, it is a little smelly to cook. That's why I always loved it when my mom would cook it for me when she knew I was going to visit. Oddly enough, I can fry chicken livers without the smell getting to me.
