A Short...But Very Sweet...Post

Our little blue jar is empty.

We made the final payment on the van yesterday afternoon,
13 months ahead of schedule.

We are now officially debt-free except for our mortgage!

Thanks everyone! This was a really important goal for us. Last winter when Shane was laid off, it was the van payment that was making us nervous. If a layoff should happen again this year, we'll be able to get by on just his unemployment. With the van paid off and all the food we've been preserving, we should do just fine this winter.

Besides, it's just nice to not have that loan anymore.

Next on our list is fattening up our emergency fund with what used to be our van payment. :)

Annie, I'm so impressed!!! We are working our way back to debt free. We were debt free for 20 years of our marriage and only just bought our first home 3 years ago. I share a lot about frugal living on my blog, Comin' Home. I'm so glad you dropped by and signed up to follow. I do hope you enjoy my posts. I'm looking forward to visiting you too. Keep up the good work!

I am proud of you and Shane, more than words can convey.
You are a good example of what can happen when you don't base your happiness on money but when it comes to the money, you do the right things with it.

Isn't it a thrill to know that you are that much less vulnerable to the whims of the economy?
Job well done....
High fives all around! ;-)

WoooWHooo! Congrats Annie. Keep your fingers crossed for me, I'm hoping to do the same in the next 6 weeks. Since I've been unemployed, the car payment has been the hardest to make.

Thanks again to everyone. :)

Lisa B: It's hardest to make right now, but once you pay it off, it will make things so much easier!

McVal: I remember those days and thinking we'd never get where we are now, but somehow we did.

Sluggy: So, tomorrow we're going new car shopping! (Ok, get up off the floor, I'm just kidding...)

Seriously, part of our happiness IS tied to money...not the spending of it, but in knowing that we're in a better position and will have enough if there's another layoff. While we aren't exactly wishing for a layoff, if one should happen, or if Shane misses a lot of work because of snow and ice this winter, we plan on relaxing and enjoying his time off. :)

Congratulations to you both! What a wonderful accomplishment and what an inspiration! I think I will set a goal to get our CRV paid off early. I think we have 3 more years on it....I will have to check...but I think we may try to half that time.

I am really proud of you!
