Monday Morning Chit Chat - Karaoke Edition

Me karaoke?  Not in this lifetime, and I'm pretty sure not in the next one either.  But Shane and Kat will, along with a few other people who attended Shane's mom's birthday party Saturday night.

Shane and Kat singing.

Shane and John singing.

Shane and me NOT singing.

Shane's good friend John brought his karaoke equipment and set it up on the back deck of MIL's house.  They live in a very small town and they have a huge back yard with lots of shade where we barbecued, played horseshoes, watched the kids run around and act crazy and enjoyed the live entertainment.  I don't think we ever got loud enough for anyone to complain, but it didn't hurt that my brother-in-law is the town cop there...

So, that was our Saturday night.  Saturday morning Shane and I hit the outdoor flea market that's held at an old drive-in theater on every weekend the weather permits.  It was absolutely packed with both buyers and sellers.  We hadn't been for a couple of years and were amazed at how many people were there.  Shane found some of the specialty tools he uses for work.  I found a few replacement pieces for my everyday Corelle dishes.  That's all we bought, though.

Sunday was a lazy day for us, and we really didn't do much.  We were so tired that you'd have thought we'd done some serious partying the night before, but really, it wasn't a late night at all.  Kat and I left at 9:30 and Shane followed half an hour later after he helped John put the equipment away.  I guess it was just one of those days.  I managed a couple of loads of laundry and some supper, but not much more.

Speaking of food (and when am I not?) I made The Bacon Explosion for the picnic.

Have you heard of it?  I heard of it about a year ago from a friend, then again a few days ago from McVal at Sew Not My Day.  The picnic was the perfect time for us to give it a try.  There were no leftovers.  If you would like to try it yourself, you can find the recipe HERE.

Are you all still alive? that looks like a heart attack waiting to happen with all that pork. Don't get me wrong I love pork, but that is fat overload!

We're fine. There were 18 other people to help us eat it. And besides, I left off the barbecue sauce because I didn't think we needed the extra calories. ;)

It looks like everyone had fun at the party. I would never sing karaoke--wouldn't want to inflict that noise on anyone!! Very nice picture of you and Shane. I saw the Bacon Explosion a while back too--we would love it here but I just can't make myself make it. Did that even make sense? Have a great week.

Yes, that made sense, Sheila. That's why I jumped on the chance to make it for a group. I knew it was too much for just us.

Must try this!

nO WAY! You made it?! How did YOU like it?

IAFG: It was pretty darn good. :)

McVal: Yep, I made it. :) I used Italian sausage that was made fresh at the grocery store and I thought it was a little overpowering; I wanted a more predominant bacon flavor. I think next time I'd try it with milder sausage or even pork breakfast sausage. But I did like it and there were no leftovers, so I guess other people liked it, too.

I seen it on channel 9 around superbowl time last year. Hubby had me look the recipe up because he wanted to smoke one also. He apparently has forgot about it. lOl The guy who came up with it is right here in the Kansas City area.

LOL....You didn't make it!
That's just crazy talk....lol
Don't you EVER show that to my family or they'll have me making it.
It's bad enough I made a meatloaf and wrapped it in a bacon lattice...they no longer let me make meatloaf the regular way....yes, we are bacon obsessed here.
I'd eat it but I'll deny I said that if asked.lol

Sounds like a nice relaxing weekend.
I was wondering why the hound was howling on Sat. night....I should have figured someone was doing Karaoke. ;-)

Jill: Yes, karaoke is fun...to watch. ;)

Lisa B: Wow, I had no idea the Bacon Explosion was a local delicacy. :)

Sluggy: Now, I said I didn't sing, so your doggy must have been howling at the moon or something. Actually, Shane and John sang together in a traveling vocal ensemble in high school. Shane's a little out of practice, but still good. John practices all the time and is very good.

I think next time I make the Explosion, it'll be bacon wrapped in bacon wrapped in bacon. Mmmm!
