Kitchen Day

Once I get my butt out of this computer chair, I'm headed into the kitchen to make these things.  If I don't post tomorrow, it's because I'm still in there.

Well your house is going to smell wonderful today!
I'm FINALLY going to make that Ham and Potato Casserole thing tonight since I got me some 'taters....wish me luck!

It's not smelling too bad. The yogurt, kefir and jelly are "done" (in the waiting stages). I still need to make the bread and pizza, though.

Let me know what you think of the ham and 'taters.

I'm not allowed to make yogurt:( Though I'd love to. Robert always brings up the fact that when he was in school he forgot to take the ingredients in one day to make it and had to sit writing lines while everyone made their yogurt and then ate it for lunch and then had to sit the whole next day writing lines because he was the only one not off sick.

I've tried telling him that a bunch of grotty kids with dirty hands probably wasn't the best way to go about making the yogurt, but I might just go ahead and have a go myself anyway:)

Mmmmm...I wish I could come smell your kitchen!

What kind of jelly did you make?

Have you made the kefir before? That is one of the next things on my list to try. I'd love to hear what you think of it and how it tastes. Thanks for the encouragement on my last post. I'm trying to make good changes, but not so fast that my family revolts! The fresh veggies and fruit at each dinner are because I don't think my kids are eating their veggies and fruit at school during the day and I am concerned that they are not getting enough. We still eat frozen and canned too. The fresh is just in addition to. I can't wait for the farmer's market and our garden to produce. Fresh veggies from the store just don't cut it.
How far are you from the KS line? Maybe you could find a raw milk supply that way. I'm pretty sure it is legal here. I haven't moved toward that change yet. I know the importance, I just don't know if cost wise I can make it happen. I'm pretty sure my hubby won't be on board with that one. So, I'll do what I can and see where we are in a few months.
Hope your baking day went well!

How did the yogurt turn out? I've always wanted to try it but I was afraid that I would kill someone!

Ham and 'taters were great! Like the boxed stuff but better and no chemical cheese!lolol
I did use 1 more tater than you so I used a whole can of evap. milk instead of 1 cup milk/cream since that's what I had. I still think it could have used a smidge more liquid.
I also used double the cheese called for and baked it about 20 min. more...I guess the altitude diff. here made that necessary.
It was a great excuse to use my mandoline too.lol
This one is a keeper.

Leanne: He has PTYSS (Post Traumatic Yogurt Stress Syndrome).

Frances: Some grape and some apple, both from concentrated juice. I don't even like jelly...LOL! Kat and Shane do, though, and it's fun to make.

Miranda: Yes, I've made the kefir. If you click on the word kefir it will take to my post about it.

I'm only a few miles from KS, but I need to do more research. According to the Farm Aid website, only 8 states allow raw milk to be sold in stores. Some others do allow it to be sold directly from the farmer, though.

SonyaAnn: The yogurt turned out thin; it happens sometimes. But that's ok, because I can still use it in baking, smoothies, etc.

Slugmama: They were a little dry, I guess, but I kind of liked them that way. As for cooking time, I am always so tempted to put "cook until done" on all my recipes. Why would you do anything else? LOL
