A Little More Good News

There may be light at the end of this tunnel after all. I just used the "Where's My Refund?" application at www.irs.gov and our refund is scheduled to direct deposit into our account on February 2!

Also, there is talk that Shane may be back to work next week or the week after. It's just talk at this point, while some of the higher-ups check out a job site to see if it's workable yet. It's likely that even if he does get a little work in, Shane could be laid off again before the work becomes steady again in late spring, but at least it's a start.

I'll keep you posted. Hope everyone has a good weekend!

It is good to hear about your refund and possible work for Shane. Hopefully y'all will have more good weather days than bad. We are supposed to get up to 12 inches of snow tonight and tomorrow. Oh joy!!! We finished our taxes last night--the bad news--we owe $1120 in federal taxes but the good news--we are getting $1121 back from the state so we actually made $1 in taxes this year!! At least it wasn't more owed.
Good luck with Shane's job!!

I can't wait to get our refund! We are about wiped out.
And I have a feeling that your hubs will be back to work soon enough. Does he get a lay off every year at this time or was this the first time?
Have a great weekend!

Good news about the refund. I never get excited about ours, since I just dump it in savings. (Even though Hubby would love to go on a major shopping trip. LOL!)

Hope Shane gets some work!

A.Marie: Yay us!

Sheila: Breaking even is better than owing. :)

SonyaAnn: It's not unheard of, but not usual, either. He had a major layoff in 2002, but in the 10+ years we've been together, the only other layoffs weren't even long enough to collect unemployment. Just 2-3 days here and there while they waited on material or good weather.

Frances: We're definitely happy to get it this year. It will hopefully keep us from incurring any more debt while Shane's not working.

I've finally gotten caught up on postings...I'm so sorry I've been out of touch! Hopefully Shane will be back to work within a week and everything will be smooth sailing again. You are definitely one of the most resourceful people I know!! Hang in there and stay positive! :)

I stopped over to say Hi!
No wonder you are upset. If this has been his longest layoff, I would be worried too.
My BIL is still on unemployment. He is a real handy guy and it is killing him to have all this free time and no money to do all the home improvement projects that he wants. Well, let me rephrase that. All the projects that my sister wants.
Have a great Monday.

It's been a rough year in our area, hang in there. Opportunities for us will start happening soon.

I'm sure I owe on all the unemployment I've received. :( I'm scared to look.

Janelle: The money is tight, but staying positive has been pretty easy. For one thing, Shane never gets any paid vacation...so he takes very little time off. It's been nice for both of us, but especially for him, to have some down time. :)

SonyaAnn: There are lots of projects Shane would like to dig into, but like your BIL, now that he has the time, we don't have the money. That's how it always goes, though.

Lisa B: Well, none of Shane's unemployment happened in 2009, but we'll be hit up on our 2010 return. We generally have a little more taken out than we need to during the year, so hopefully it will all even out.
