Get A Haircut and Get A Real Job

So I'm still trying to get the job, but at least I got the haircut out of the way today.

I have hair that's a bit curly and I wear it short and spiky, so it needs to be cut every 4 weeks, give or take a few days. It's an easy cut that I don't have to curl or blow dry. I just put some gel in, spike it up and let it dry.

All that being said, there's just no way I'm going to spend a lot of money on a haircut. Instead I get it done at a local cosmetology school. For $5 I get a cut from a student who's nearing the end of training and who is supervised by an instructor. In my experience, students will go out of their way to make sure the cut is done right. I've had the best luck with cuts this way. They also offer a host of other services such as color, highlights, perms and manicures. I've not had any of these things done (I color my own hair and don't get perms or manicures), but their prices seem just as reasonable.

It can take just a little longer than going to a walk-in place or a salon requiring an appointment, but I can drop in any time it's convenient for me. And even with a tip, it's half the price of the next cheapest place I could go.

Works for me.

If we had an $8 place, I'd probably go there, only because the school is 10-15 minutes away. Not that far, really, but on some days it just doesn't work into my schedule.

I agree that the pricier cuts I've had aren't any better than I get for $5; sometimes they've not been good at all.

Cosmetology schools are the bomb. The students are almost ready for the workforce, hungry for a good grade and I can't count the number of times I've paid 20 bucks for a haircut by a person who has been out of school for 2 months.

Sheila: One in Grandview and one in Blue Springs. I'll email you details.

Dave: That's kind of the way I see it. There seems to be a lot of turnover, especially at the chain salons, so chances are you're getting a newbie anyway.

I say go for it - if there was a school close to us I'd do it. But since there isn't the boys go to the barber shop (think Floyd's from Mayberry) and Tink and I go to "krew Kuts" for a $1 more... with my new cut, it's quick and easy so I can't see how they can mess it up...

Fantastagirl: I cut Shane's hair, but you know it's just a simple almost buzz-cut, and I trim Kat's hair. But there's no way I can cut an actual style.

You should post your short haircut. I'm sure it's really cute. :)
