Did you know you can get trees from the Arbor Day Foundation for nearly FREE?
For a $10 membership to the foundation, you can receive ten tree seedlings for free. They are shipped at the optimal time for planting in your area (once in the fall, once in the spring) and they are guaranteed to survive.
Trees add not only visual interest to any lawn, but can also offer an abundance of shade in the summer and wind-blockage in the winter, helping to save on your utility bills.
There are a number of free tree packages to choose from. We chose the Autumn Classics group that includes two Sugar Maples, two Red Maples, Scarlet Oak, Red Oak, Sweetgum, Silver Maple, White Flowering Dogwood, Washington Hawthorn. They will be here just in time for early November planting.
Available packages may be different in your area.

I've been wanting to do this for a while, but haven't gotten around to it yet!
Since we're in the same zone, you should try to do it soon if you want to plant in the fall. But there's always spring planting, too.
